These air fryer honey chipotle wings are one of those recipes I make when I want bold flavor without the mess of deep frying. I start with perfectly seasoned wings that get incredibly crispy in the air fryer, then toss them in a sticky, smoky honey chipotle sauce that hits sweet, spicy, and savory all at once. The chipotle peppers bring a deep smoky heat while the honey balances everything out with just the right amount of sweetness. Every bite has crispy skin, juicy meat, and that glossy sauce clinging to every crevice. These wings feel restaurant quality, but they are easy enough to make any night of the week.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

You’ll love this recipe because it delivers restaurant quality wings at home with minimal effort. The air fryer gives you ultra crispy skin without oil splatter, while the honey chipotle sauce balances sweetness, heat, and smokiness perfectly. It’s fast enough for weeknights, impressive enough for game day, and customizable if you want more or less heat.

Ingredients

Chicken Wings

  • 2 lbs chicken wings split into flats and drumettes
  • 2 tablespoon vegetable or canola oil
  • 2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

Honey Chipotle Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable or canola oil
  • 1 tablespoon garlic minced
  • 1 cup honey
  • ⅓ cup chipotles in adobo sauce chopped (plus 2 tablespoon of sauce)
  • 3 tablespoon fresh lime juice

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 400°F.
  • Place the chicken wings in a large bowl. Drizzle with oil and season with kosher salt, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, and baking powder if using. Toss well to coat evenly.
  • Working in batches, place the wings in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
  • Cook for 20 to 25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the wings are golden brown, crispy, and reach an internal temperature of 165°F.
  • While the wings cook, heat oil in a medium skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Stir in the honey, chopped chipotles with adobo sauce, and lime juice.
  • Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until slightly thickened.
  • Transfer the cooked wings to a large bowl.
  • Pour the warm honey chipotle sauce over the wings and toss until evenly coated.
  • Serve immediately while hot and sticky.

Recipe Tips

For extra crispy wings, pat the chicken completely dry before seasoning and do not overcrowd the air fryer basket. Cooking in batches makes a big difference in texture.
