If there's one thing I enjoy, it's taking an everyday ingredient like ground beef and turning it into a meal that tastes like something you'd order at a restaurant.
And that's exactly what I'm doing with these Tuscan Hamburger Steaks.
Now, most of us are familiar with traditional hamburger steaks served with brown gravy and onions. That's a classic comfort food meal that I never get tired of.
But this time, I'm switching things up.
Instead of the usual brown gravy, I'm making a rich, creamy Tuscan-style sauce loaded with garlic, Parmesan cheese, spinach and sun-dried tomatoes.
And let me tell you, that combination works incredibly well with hamburger steaks.
I start by mixing the ground beef with breadcrumbs, an egg, garlic powder, dried onion, salt and black pepper. Nothing complicated here. Just a few simple ingredients to help season the beef and keep everything together.
Once the mixture is ready, I divide it into four portions and shape them into thick hamburger steaks.
Next, I heat some olive oil and butter in a large skillet and sear the steaks until they develop a beautiful brown crust on both sides.
That browning is important because it adds a deeper, savory flavor to the finished dish.
After removing the steaks from the skillet, I start building the sauce right in the same pan.
I add diced onions and fresh garlic, allowing them to cook in the flavorful drippings left behind by the beef.
Then I stir in some tomato paste and Italian seasoning before pouring in the heavy cream.
This is where the recipe really starts coming together.
The tomato paste gives the cream sauce a beautiful warm color and adds a little depth to balance out the richness.
Then I add fresh spinach, chopped sun-dried tomatoes and freshly grated Parmesan cheese.
As the cheese melts into the cream, the sauce becomes smooth, rich and packed with flavor.
Finally, I return the hamburger steaks to the skillet and let them simmer in that sauce until they're fully cooked.
The result is a juicy hamburger steak covered in a creamy, garlicky Parmesan sauce with little bursts of tangy flavor from the sun-dried tomatoes.
And what I really like about this dish is that you don't need expensive cuts of meat or a long list of complicated ingredients to make something special.
You can serve these Tuscan Hamburger Steaks over mashed potatoes, rice, egg noodles or pasta. Personally, I also like having some toasted bread on the side because you don't want to leave any of that sauce behind.
This is the kind of meal that looks impressive enough for a special dinner but is easy enough to make during the week.
If you're looking for something different to do with ground beef, this is definitely one worth trying.
