Cheesy Sausage and Potatoes
Ingredients
- 2 pounds potatoes cubed
- 19 oz smoked sausage
- 1 and 1 half cups mozzarella cheese shredded
- 1 and 1 half cups cheddar cheese shredded
- 1 half cup Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 white onion diced
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 5 to 6 garlic cloves minced
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 half tablespoon season salt
- 1 half teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees. Grease a 9 by 13 inch baking dish and set it aside.
- Peel and cube the potatoes. Rinse them well to remove excess starch and pat them completely dry so they bake evenly.
- Slice the smoked sausage into half inch rounds. Add to a skillet over medium heat and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until lightly browned. Set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the diced onions and garlic and cook for 5 minutes until soft and fragrant.
- Pour in the heavy cream and milk. Add garlic powder, onion powder, season salt, and black pepper. Bring to a gentle simmer.
- Remove the pan from the heat. Stir in 3 fourths cup cheddar, 3 fourths cup mozzarella, and all the Parmesan until the sauce becomes smooth and creamy.
- Layer half of the potatoes in the baking dish. Add half of the browned sausage and half of the cheese sauce. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
- Sprinkle the top with the remaining half cup of cheddar.
- Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake for 40 to 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for 15 more minutes until the top is golden and bubbling.
- Optional: Broil the top for 2 to 3 minutes if you prefer a crispy cheesy crust.
- Let the casserole rest for 5 to 10 minutes to allow the sauce to thicken. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.
