Honey Garlic Sausage & Rice
A one-pan honey garlic sausage and rice dish made with smoked sausage,peppers, and seasoned rice, finished with a sweet and savory glaze.
Ingredients
- 1 lb smoked sausage Andouille, cut into ½-inch rounds
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium yellow onion diced
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 1 red bell pepper chopped
- 1 green bell pepper chopped
- 1½ cups long-grain rice rinsed until water runs clear
- 3 cups chicken broth
- 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne optional
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1 teaspoon Black pepper
- 2 tablespoon honey
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley garnish
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add sliced sausage and cook 5 to 7 minutes until browned.
- Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, add diced onion. Cook 4 to 5 minutes until soft.
- Add garlic and cook 30 to 60 seconds until fragrant.
- Stir in red bell pepper, green bell pepper, and jalapeño if using.
- Cook 4 to 6 minutes until slightly softened.
- Add rinsed rice to the skillet.
- Stir for 1 to 2 minutes to coat in flavor.
- Pour in chicken broth.
- Add Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, cayenne, salt, and pepper.
- Stir and scrape up any bits from the bottom.
- Bring to a light boil, then reduce heat to low.
- Cover and simmer for 18 to 20 minutes until rice is tender.
- In a small bowl, whisk together Honey, Soy sauce, and Dijon mustard
- Return sausage to skillet. Pour sauce over everything and stir gently. Cover and cook 2 to 3 more minutes.
- Remove from heat and let sit covered for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork. Top with parsley and green onions.

Toast the rice for a minute or two before adding liquid. This adds a deeper, almost nutty flavor and keeps the rice from getting mushy.
